In each Member State, one can define a "living wage", i.e. the wage necessary for a family of 4 to live decently: providing food, housing, clothing, education, healthcare, access to culture and a capacity for savings. In recent times the ways of powerful multi-national corporations avoiding fair taxation within the European Union have increasingly come to light. Immoral tax rates for corporations in Ireland and Luxembourg are encouraging a race to the bottom. A system were we have 27 different tax rates for corporations which benefit from the common market defies any common sense.

The automotive industry has an enormous importance in terms of (1) environmental impact, (2) contribution to mobility and (3) economic value added and employment. Automotive use and production should decline over the next century - but this decline must be managed responsibly.
